The number of bird species in trouble is increasing, warned today ADN and BirdLife International.
The last estimate, published in a detailed study by BirdLife, Birds in Europe, revealed that 226 species of birds – 43% of all those that occur regularly in Europe – face an uncertain future. Many of those appear currently reduced and rare or localized, while populations of other species remain at minimum levels after the great declines suffered during the 1970s and ‘80s. Some species today are found to be so endangered that they could be extirpated from some parts of Europe in the near future.
