MATHEMATICS OF IMAGINARY REALITY
A growing compendium of the mathematical basis for the scientific investigation of
Imaginary Reality
The familiar principle of perversity has been formulated
in many ways by many theoreticians throughout history, culminating in the famous Murphy's
Law. Recent observers have believed that the perversity factor (P) of the universe is
increasing. This observation led to the belief that P, like entropy (En) is a condition rather
than an operand like energy. However, further calculation has shown that if En is a
description of a reduction in universal energy gradient, then P must be a reduction in
something, say anti-P (-P).
Further, it is easy to show that P+(-P) = 0 for the entire reality continuum (R). Therefore, a
region of negative perversity or -P must exist with properties negative to those of ordinary
Reality, that is, the Murphian universe. At the interface of this universe, IR with ordinarian
or Murphian reality (oR), the inter-reality equivalent of Maxwell's demon separates Reality
factor null [Rf(0)] into Rf(P) and Rf(-P), the former going to ordinary Reality, the latter to
Imaginary Reality.
A more precise and scientific way of stating the above principle is that this interface is the
zone in which Reality is generated, the positive component forming the Murphian universe,
the negative, the anti-Murphian.

TR=IR+OR where TR is total reality, IR is imaginary
reality, and OR is ordinary reality.

In Imaginary Reality, the truth value of information is
ordered along a hierarchy such that:
- WAG (Wild Ass Guess) is the lowest
- SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess), is next
- Theory* is third in the hierarchy with
- Conjecture/Postulate/Theorum next,
- Fact above that and
- Rule above that leaving
- Law of the Universe at the top.
These levels can be distinguished from each other by counting the decimal places. A WAG has
no decimals, a SWAG has one, a Statistic has two, and so on to Law of the Universe which
has at least five. The more decimals, the more fundamental the Law to the functioning of the
universe. A WAG can be elevated to a Law of the Universe by the addition of five decimal
places.
For example: If an Imaginarian counts the people in a certain room and decides there are
fourteen present, the datum can be reported as nPiTR = 14 where nPiTR is number of people
in the room and 14 is the observation. If the observation is reported in this manner, it is a
WAG. It can be raised to the level of Law of the Universe by adding the requisite decimals
and reporting it as 14.0000000. The conclusion that there are 14.0000000 people in the room
is now a law of the universe. If more decimals are added making the number, say,
14.000000000000, the observation becomes a fundamental law of the universe. In fact, there
is no need for the Imaginarian to even visit the room. He or she could decide that there must
be, say, five people in the room. Reported as nPiTR = 5.000000000000000, it becomes a
fundamental law of the universe that there are five people in the room, even if some Ordinarian
visits the room and naively reports that there are 14 people there. Political, business, and many
other statistics are calculated and reported in this manner, indicating the presence of a large
number of Imaginarians in these fields of endeavor. The entire U.S. effort in Vietnam and the
economic 'reform' of the '80s and early '90s were supported solely by this type of information.
*This hierarchy has nothing to do with Ordinary Reality and is derived from the
statements of known imaginarians. For example, Ronald Reagan, when pandering to the anti-
evolutionists said something to the effect that evolution is only a theory.

ordinarians are capable of multi-tasking in a manner
transparent to Imaginarians. The capacity is infinite, and function is invoked automatically
when Imaginarians commit technicians to tasks with total time requirements of > 24
hours/day.
This corollary defines the Time Law of Imaginary Reality or the Law of Imaginary Time:
Time is compressible as in the Murphian Universe, but the rules of compression are different.
Time compressibility approaches infinity in the direction of travel toward a deadline. This
concept is completely familiar to any IS manager who has been handed specs on which the
Imaginarian boss bid a project that will require all IS equipment to operate at full capacity for
longer than the projected remaining lifetime of the universe in order to produce graphic
coordinates three orders of magnitude finer than the human eye can distinguish or the plotter
pen can draw.
As a result of this corollary, technician time can approach infinity while zero time elapses in
Imaginary Reality. Ordinarians are paid by time units of Imaginary Reality, so time
compression extends a project's labor budget infinitely. The Law of Imaginary Time implies
the existence of Arbitrary or Variable Time which allows an Imaginarian to bid a project
arbitrarily low while still enjoying an unlimited budget for the project. This same law allows
goverment at all levels to impose infinite amounts of paperwork and other Imaginarian tasks
upon lower govermental levels, functionaries such as teachers, small businesses, and others
without impeding the defined function of the position.
Arbitrary time can be expressed as follows:
T=1/{[(Pt/Pr)C]**S}O
where:
T = time (in Imaginary units, of
course) Computations are
performed using Imaginary
numbers, the real component
of any number being
undefined.
Pt = total project duration
Pr = remaining duration
C = amount of Imgainarian's
overdue car payment
S = need to suck up to higher
status Imaginarian (chairman of the board, governor, etc)
O = opportunity to slip one over
on other department heads
Terms in this equation actually resolve to 0 or
infinity or somewhere in between at the whim of the
Imaginarian because executive prerogatives are not
constrained by the dictates of any reality, even the Imaginary.

Machines are like humans and humans are like machines
and either should be able to produce what the Imaginarian in charge REALLY wanted, no
matter what he said he wanted. M=H->WF (wish fulfillment)

In order for the mathematics of Imaginary Reality to
work exactly as the Imaginarian may wish, a fudge factor is automatically added to any
equation developed in Imaginary Reality. So that
Rd is desired result, Ro is observed result and F = Rd-Ro
All economic and most psychological theories operate on this principle. The usual form this
takes in the reasoning of economics can be illustrated by the famous trickledown theory: In
words, "Total dollars available at the bottom of an economic pyramid will be greater if dollars
are added to the top rather than at the bottom where the effect will be measured -- unless it
doesn't work out that way in which case total dollars + F at the bottom of the pyramid will be
greater given the infusion of dollars from the top." The equivalent in wildlife management
terms would be to introduce lake trout into high-elevation lakes to increase the stocking of
brook trout in low-elevation streams.
